Ayurvedic Diet
The Ayurvedic Diet draws its name and principles from "Ayurveda", an
ancient medical science that originated in India thousands of years ago. According
to ayurvedic theory a human body is constituted of three energy forces or "tri-doshas"
(vata, pitta, kapha). The concept of this diet is to maintain a proper balance
between these doshas to lead a healthy life.
Ayurveda encourages people to eat a balanced diet that includes all the six
tastes with stress on whole and natural foods. The theory also divides food
items into six major categories based on their inherent qualities i.e. heavy,
light, oily, dry, hot and cold.
