Buddhist Diet
It is a diet based on the principles of 'Buddhism". According to the "Five
Precepts" of Buddhist theory, consumption of meat, intoxicants (alcohol,
drugs etc.) and pungent spices (garlic, onions, chives, shallot and leeks) is
prohibited.
Followers of Buddhism are asked to shun meat since it causes direct or indirect
suffering to animals, which is against the teachings of Buddha. According to
the "Buddhist Diet" any vegetables that have strong flavors and smells
are to be avoided since they may cause arousal and excitement in a person. However
opinions vary among different Buddhist sects as there are different interpretations
of this percept.
