Calorie Restriction Diet
Research work on this concept was first started way back in 1934 by Clive McCay
and Mary Crowell. Both were from Cornell University and studied the effects
of a reduced calorie diet on rats. Their work was again taken up in 1986 by
Roy Walford and Richard Weindruch who after a series of experiments reported
that life span of rats increased considerably when their calorie intake was
reduced.
"Calorie Restriction" is not a diet but more of a lifestyle through
which gradual weight loss can be achieved resulting in improved health and an
extended lifespan. The basic idea is to reduce the intake of calories (10%-25%)
in the diet while maintaining proper nutrition levels.
