The Graham Diet
Sylvester Graham (1794-1851), an American Presbyterian minister came up with this
diet plan in the year 1829. "Graham diet" is a strictly vegetarian diet
that relates dietary habits to sexual behavior. Graham drew widespread criticism
for his diet plan and was often targeted by butchers, bakers and liquor companies.
The diet mainly consists of fruits, vegetables, homemade whole wheat flour
and food products that are rich in fiber. Though the use of some dairy products
like fresh milk, and cheese is allowed the use of butter is restricted. Graham
was totally against use of meat, alcohol, tobacco, spices, refined flour and
stimulants like tea and coffee. According to Graham an unhealthy diet stimulates
sexual desires and impure thoughts, which are harmful for the body.
