This diet was quite popular in the 1970s but in recent years its popularity has receded since it has been found that saturated fats associated with meat products may cause certain heart problems.

This diet plan is best suited for bodybuilders and athletes as a high protein content helps in strengthening body muscles. "High protein diet" restricts the intake of carbohydrates to a certain extent and can thus lead to quick weight loss. Recommended foods include meat, poultry, egg whites, fish, cheese, protein supplements etc. Foods to be avoided are refined sugar, starch, carbohydrates, sugary fruits etc.
