Low carbohydrate-diet
There are several diet plans (Atkin's diet, High protein diet, Hollywood diet
etc.) that recommend a low carbohydrate diet for weight loss and to maintain general
health. This type of a diet program proves to be quite effective for short term
periods and can make a person lose weight very quickly.
The basic theory is to restrict the intake of carbohydrates to reduce insulin
levels in the body. As a result, the body primarily starts burning fat deposits
to make up for the body's energy requirements. Foods to be avoided include bread,
rice, pasta whereas fruits and vegetables can be consumed in restricted amounts.
