Low-copper diet
This diet plan is generally recommended for people suffering from Wilson's disease
(a hereditary problem that causes copper to accumulate in the body). Excessive
build up of copper in the body can lead to serious health problems like brain
damage, eye damage, liver cirrhosis, kidney failure etc.
According to this diet the foods that need to be restricted include chocolate,
liver, shellfish, dry fruits, whole wheat etc. Copper content in a particular
food may vary depending on the soil quality in which it was grown. Same is the
case with water that comes from different sources. Thus it is necessary to monitor
or analyze the food products to determine its copper content before consumption.
